THESE CITIZEN’S PETITIONS ARE ON THE NOV. 7th BALLOT
WHAT VOTING “YES” DOES:
The Citizen Petitions stop tall buildings, over development, increased traffic, higher taxes and give citizens the right to vote before significant changes can be made affecting the fundamental character of the City. Voting Yes secures your right to vote.
HOW YOUR “YES” STOPS TALL BUILDINGS AND OVER DEVELOPMENT:
Yes __ Charter Amendment Unanimous Commission Vote Required To Adopt Comprehensive Plan Amendments of 5 or Fewer Parcels Voting yes provides protection against the commission allowing 5 parcels or less to be developed with increased height & density without unanimous approval by the Commission. Since Florida law does not permit voter approval on development of 5 parcels or less, this closes the loop hole that would allow them to build a condo canyon of high rises by gaining approval of increased height and density from a developer-friendly commission.
Yes __ Charter Amendment To Require Voter approval of any Community Redevelopment Plans. Voting yes protects your rights as a home owner, business or land owner from your property being declared “blighted” by the city. Being declared blighted gives more authority to the city to take your property by eminent domain for development.
Yes __ Charter Amendment To Require Voter Approval of increases of increase in allowable height of any structure over the current limit which now is 50 FEET. Voting yes gives you the choice of how tall buildings will be in SPB.
Yes __ Charter Amendment To Require Voter Approval for Comprehensive Plan Amendments (on more than 5 parcels) By voting YES on this Amendment citizens will have final approval through a vote on any new comprehensive plan amendment that sets the “blueprint” for the city.
Yes __ Referendum – Reconsideration by the Commission of Ordinance 2004-24, Providing For Amendment of the Comprehensive Plan amendment passed in Summer of 2005. Voting Yes to repeal this ordinance eliminates the capability of developers building hotel/condos of 15, 20 or more stories on the beach which are now authorized by this ordinance.
Yes __Referendum – Reconsideration by the Commission of Ordinance 2006-03, Establishing Division 43 in the Land Development Code City Ordinance allowing Special Area Plans permitting condos of 7 stories or more in many areas of the City (like Dolphin Village & other areas on the east side of Gulf Blvd). Voting yes stops the city from singling out areas they want to “special” zoning to increase heights, densities and change use.
